Ruth Joan Nelson

I’m Ruth Nelson, a spatial data scientist and policy specialist at the Municipality of Amsterdam, where I coordinate evidence-based research across a number of teams on the city’s canals and waterways. I hold a PhD in Spatial Data Science and Policy from TU Delft, alongside an MRes in Space Syntax (UCL) and a Master’s in Architecture (Nelson Mandela University), and have worked across South Africa, the UK, Mexico and the Netherlands. My work goes beyond informing policy. I’m interested in shaping the policy process through building the conditions for decisions to be grounded in science.
