Ruth Nelson
Hello there! My name is Ruth Nelson and I am a spatial data scientist, with a background in Architecture, currently working as an interdisciplinary PhD researcher within the Centre for Urban Science and Policy at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. I have both a Master’s in Architecture (Nelson Mandela University) and MRes. in Space Syntax (University College London). I have previously worked in corporate, consulting and research roles in South Africa, the UK, Mexico and the Netherlands and have several affiliations with TU Delft Global (Netherlands), Urban AI (France), the Local Government Information Unit (UK) and Young Urbanists South Africa. My aim is to support the development of more equitable policies and design solutions through harnessing the power of digital technologies and spatial data science.
I am pleased to share that I was recently awarded the best paper in Spatial Analysis at the annual GISRUK conference in Leeds by the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (UCL CASA) in memory of Sinesio Alves Junior for my paper focusing on the application of ethics to spatial analytics and urban planning.
